New Richter exhibit with colourful paintings and linoleum

Filed under: News and Events, Present Exhibition — admin @ 5:23 pm

Werkatelier Richter organises a double exhibition on Saturday the 22nd of may by Gemma Gabarron and Floor Fraenkel. In the front part of the atelier the final result of a workshop linoleum cutting will be on display, while the main part of the atelier will be furnished with a selection of paintings by Floor Fraenkel.

The workshop linoleum cutting by Gemma Gabarron took place at the  “kunst in de kop” atelier at the Westststraat. Gemma Gabarron, a native from Spain has been working as a European volunteer at Richter, and in this capacity has taken on the task of leading the workshop linoleum cutting. This general exhibition consists of various works of art plus a detailed explanation about linoleum cutting. Working with linoleum is an old technique remembered by many as an old school activity. This technique is still a lot of fun and for who would like to try or relive those back to school activities materials will be provided, so give it a try!!

The main part has been reserved for the Helderian artist Floor Fraenkel who has been painting for many years at the “kunst in de kop” atelier and as well as this has been taking lessons from a artist that lives in Den Helder; Jan Nijhof.

It will be a challenge to walk past these colourful canvasses without looking at them. Especially the forceful colour combinations are fascinating and full of movement. A trademark of Floor Fraenkel is the innocence and frankness of her way of painting, which results in a modern Cobra style, full of dynamics, rhythm and movement, generally with a lot of elements such as people, flowers and animals.

We are happy to invite you to the opening of this fascinating exhibit. This will take place on Saturday the 22nd of May at 16.00 hours in the presence of both artists. The exhibition ends at 03 juli 2010.

The exhibition is not for people who can’t stand seeing explicit nudes, but will definitely satisfy those interested in realism & fine technique.

Photographs will not be allowed as there are some unique pieces. The artist will also be there sometime painting & may also invite certain members of the general public to pose as models live.

Filed under: News and Events, Present Exhibition — admin @ 5:49 pm

Exhibition by Vlad Dumitrescu –Petrica at the Richter werkatelier

The Richter Foundation invites you for the opening of an exhibition by Vlad Dumitrescu Petrica, an artist originally from Romania and first exhibition outside his home country. The opening will be on 14 November at 16:00 hours,

The exhibition is his first words spoken to the world of photography, a chance to share with others what he had discovered during his stay in the Netherlands, fragments and aspects that are nearby our eyes. The artist lived the last 6 weeks in Den Helder at Richter and to worked towards an exhibition what is called WATER-ing.

Touch by the local surrounding of Den Helder, touch by the amount of water, Vlad’s   exhibition is a reflection and a result after a deep visual analyze. The expression of a silent zoom in or a noisy zoom out, of water and a view sides into dark drops of liquid.

Despite the common subject, the artist hopes that the gathering of properties of water is distinguished. The artist selected images that can “speak” of the inside contrasts of Water appearances.

Surrounded by water, guided by several objects and installations, connected with lyrics, stepping on the water, all could represent a resonant medium of a “character” which the artist hope to expand.

You are welcome to join us and the artist at the opening of this fascinating exhibit on Saturday the 14th of November at 16.00 hours, the exhibit will run until the 23rd of December.

Exhibition by Babs Straalman at the Richter werkatelier

Filed under: News and Events, Present Exhibition — admin @ 9:37 pm

The Richter Foundation invites you to come to the opening of an exhibit by Babs Straalman an artist originally from Den Helder.

Despite Babs having worked as an artist for a considerable time, she only started showing her colourful cheerful and vital work with graphic references to the public recently.

Colourful: she works with coloured inks which have a clear and translucent effect.

Cheerful and vital because she just happens to be like that as a person.
Graphic references : because of her accurate written lines by her hand that shows poetical paraphrasing and which leans a little bit towards the bizarre and is showing an unbridled fantasy which doesn’t exclude precision. Just that feel for the graphic value of the line is the basic foundation of her gift. Her drawings show a remarkable sensibility within this area. She is in the process of building a body of work that because she is an autodidact she has no one to thank for but herself.

The work shows a curiosity for the techniques and materials while simultaneously maintaining its wondrous suppleness and sensitivity. The word “freedom” keeps on imposing. A style which is like no other but which is of such a charm that it is impossible for people to ignore.

You are welcome to join us and the artist at the opening of this new and fascinating exhibit on Saturday the 3rd of October at 16.00 hours, the exhibit will run until the 8th of November.

NEW EXHIBITION: Unique traditional high-tech machines with a romantic purpose

Filed under: News and Events, Present Exhibition — admin @ 9:44 pm

From  June the 20th till the 25th of July “Werkatelier Richter” at Juttersplein 2a in Den Helder will show the work of artist Paul van Twist, whom before he became an artist was working as an inventor as the head of an innovative team at Philips in Eindhoven. Now according to traditional ways he creates unique machines under the well chosen company name of Moving Machines. The machines at the exhibition invite the viewer to actively amaze themselves about special occurrences in nature such as for example the bouncing off of beams of sunlight hitting the water.

They look like Biedermeier furniture, old pinball machines or disused appliances. But the creations of art made by Van Twist are new and they are all in full working order. With some high Tech processes he utilises some very basic mechanical principles that are familiar to everyone such as turning, flowing or blowing. In principle nothing  is hidden and the viewer can see ho wan effect has come about. And yet they will be seduced again and again to succumb to the romantic illusions.

A visit to this exhibition is completely different from your average gallery experience. Active and playful the visitor will go from one carefully created marvel to the other. The Werkatelier is open for visitors every Wednesday till Saturday, always from 12.00 till 17.30 o’clock. On Saturdays the artist will be available only with an appointment made in advance.

The opening will take place on Saturday the  20th of June at 16.00 o’clock with a spectacular opening act the “Theremin Performance” by Wilco Botermans.
