Exhibition by Babs Straalman at the Richter werkatelier

Filed under: News and Events, Present Exhibition — admin @ 9:37 pm

The Richter Foundation invites you to come to the opening of an exhibit by Babs Straalman an artist originally from Den Helder.

Despite Babs having worked as an artist for a considerable time, she only started showing her colourful cheerful and vital work with graphic references to the public recently.

Colourful: she works with coloured inks which have a clear and translucent effect.

Cheerful and vital because she just happens to be like that as a person.
Graphic references : because of her accurate written lines by her hand that shows poetical paraphrasing and which leans a little bit towards the bizarre and is showing an unbridled fantasy which doesn’t exclude precision. Just that feel for the graphic value of the line is the basic foundation of her gift. Her drawings show a remarkable sensibility within this area. She is in the process of building a body of work that because she is an autodidact she has no one to thank for but herself.

The work shows a curiosity for the techniques and materials while simultaneously maintaining its wondrous suppleness and sensitivity. The word “freedom” keeps on imposing. A style which is like no other but which is of such a charm that it is impossible for people to ignore.

You are welcome to join us and the artist at the opening of this new and fascinating exhibit on Saturday the 3rd of October at 16.00 hours, the exhibit will run until the 8th of November.

The local Serbian partner who is ONO – Omladinska Nevladina Organizacija. ONO is a NGO, which started its work in year 2005, with the aim to improve the quality of life of young people and to encourage their social inclusion and activism. ONO is responsible for accommodation, food and local transport. Also the study visits are there responsibility and is a part of the practical side of the training.

In organizing this training Richter wishes to give opportunities to organizations from Europe and from the South East part of Europe to share their experiences and gain knowledge and new skills in the fields of youth work and youth arts, as well as establishing new contacts and developing common project ideas within the frame of the Youth in Action program.

The project will bring together a maximum of 16 professional youth workers to work together to explore concepts of citizenship and to learn skills which they can use with their own target groups to support them in becoming active and creative citizens within Europe. The impact of the training will therefore be not only on participants, who will have the opportunity to develop themselves, but also on the target groups of the organizations that they represent.
