Hurrah .. the 10th WESTIVAL theatre edition

Filed under: News and Events — admin @ 9:57 pm

Richter will be organized for the tenth times in Den Helder from 13 till 22 July 2009. Through this festival we hope to give participants an insight in the world and lives of youths from other countries, cultures and backgrounds. A total of 50 youngsters from Spain. Estonia, Italy, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Scotland and the Netherlands will participate in this festival. And during the week they will be active in the different workshops, lead by international professional workshop leader and the participant will be working on a group project in small groups.

Subsidy from the city of Den Helder

Thanks to the final support of the city counsel of Den Helder and from the shop owners in the centre of the city we are able to organise on the main central square in the city of Den Helder an international street theatre festival, called North East Westival. This event will take place on Tuesday 21 of July (starts at 10.00 hours) and beside each art/street performances of the countries we have booked several other Dutch artist to create a complete international atmosphere of street-art-performance.

The complete Westival programme:

The Brothers Broelie – showtime at 10:00 and 12:55 hours

The brothers Broelie are two fools who like nothing better than to play with fire. During the 30 minute performance a variety of attributes will be set on fire and without them realising it the flames will shoot up up till 15 meters in height. By this spectacle even this hilariously funny duo is impressed.

Toon Maas - showtime at 11:40 and 14:35 hours

With a cunning hand puppet Toon Maas creates a unique double character. The image is one of such baffling simplicity  that you just don’t know what you see. The two in one character runs into danger, gestures, sits, walks, talks and improvises: Amongst the people, Towards itself, next to each other, with the audience and with everything and everyone.

Stabilimento Teatrale di Caerano plays “”many ways to be Italian” at 12:40 hours.

This youth-theater group from Cavaso del Tomba does in a brief and ironic play the stereotypes we have about Italians. In the end it turns out that, despite the differences, we are all equal.

Circus Theatre Vladimir performs Apetrots - showtime at 12:10 and 14:45 hours

In this spectacular and cheerful family show Vladimir is searching for the princess of his dreams in the audience. Hilarious heights, bone chilling depths and hair raising falls. A struggle with gravity. A broken heart-attack’ and an emergency service from the audience who will  ’professionally  place a bypass’. When he discovers his princess from the top the wedding of his dreams is within reach…

JabbeDabbeDoe - showtime at 11:10 and 13:35 hours

Whoever has seen clown JabbeDabbeDoe before will never forget him. His spectacular stunts guarantee modern day nostalgia, pure and uncut, with a laugh and a tear and never far away. Tightrope dancing, Fire breathing, acrobatics… JabbeDabbeDoe knows how to move you as no other with both small as well as big things.

The Suggestion Code - showtime troughout the day in the city centre

On the occasion of the 10th edition of the North East Westival, the citizens of Den Helder will be invited to spontaneously express their thoughts in the center of Den Helder, through colour and words, on topics like love, friendship, youth, culture and many more. For the first time in the history on the Festival, organized by Richter Youth Activity, everyone from Den Helder will have the opportunity to put down personal ideas on white living sculptures. The street performance, called “The Suggestion Code”, will grow into an open-air art installation, which will be the creation of both the Westival artists and the citizens of Den Helder.

“The Sven” - showtime at 10:40 and 14:05 hours

A somewhat strange character with to short long trousers ,a pair of eye popping red in your face knee-socks and a red t-shirt cycles round on his unicycle. When he comes to a standstill a super active and explosive fire show kicks of.

Ocreaties plays Picollo – showtime at 10:30 and 13:25 hours

A very warm welcome… our newest creation PICCOLO welcomes, heats and surprises. Leave you sailed too by our piccolo’s on a magical discovery travel along all your senses and further …PICCOLO was the act most noticed during the Cultuurmarkt edition 2006! The audience including the media were carried away with the performance. Photographs of PICCOLO ended up thus in the Monday-edition of The Standaard and Het Nieuwsblad.)

Cirq’ulation Locale plays Trampoline Mission 3 – final act at 15:10 hours

Three circus artists bring a spectacular street show that catches the attention with a “never seen before” combination of juggling stunts, maxi trampoline-acrobatics, street theatre and slapsticks. Using the motto ‘the sky is the limit’, they fly and tumble through the air. This trio cannot live with or without one another. One moment they challenge each other by performing stunning performances. Just a second later they harmoniously jump with joy.
