NEW EXHIBITION: Unique traditional high-tech machines with a romantic purpose

Filed under: News and Events, Present Exhibition — admin @ 9:44 pm

From  June the 20th till the 25th of July “Werkatelier Richter” at Juttersplein 2a in Den Helder will show the work of artist Paul van Twist, whom before he became an artist was working as an inventor as the head of an innovative team at Philips in Eindhoven. Now according to traditional ways he creates unique machines under the well chosen company name of Moving Machines. The machines at the exhibition invite the viewer to actively amaze themselves about special occurrences in nature such as for example the bouncing off of beams of sunlight hitting the water.

They look like Biedermeier furniture, old pinball machines or disused appliances. But the creations of art made by Van Twist are new and they are all in full working order. With some high Tech processes he utilises some very basic mechanical principles that are familiar to everyone such as turning, flowing or blowing. In principle nothing  is hidden and the viewer can see ho wan effect has come about. And yet they will be seduced again and again to succumb to the romantic illusions.

A visit to this exhibition is completely different from your average gallery experience. Active and playful the visitor will go from one carefully created marvel to the other. The Werkatelier is open for visitors every Wednesday till Saturday, always from 12.00 till 17.30 o’clock. On Saturdays the artist will be available only with an appointment made in advance.

The opening will take place on Saturday the  20th of June at 16.00 o’clock with a spectacular opening act the “Theremin Performance” by Wilco Botermans.
