Opening: The Vrolijkheid celebrates 10th anniversary

Filed under: Exhibitions — admin @ 3:35 pm

This year The Vrolijkheid celebrates it’s 10th anniversary and will mark this occasion with a retrospective exhibition at the Richter foundations Werkatelier.

Our full title is the National foundation for the encouragement of Cheerfulness. In short : de Vrolijkheid (The Cheerfulness). We pay extra atention to children and youths staying in asylum seeking centers. One in three refugees coming to The Netherlands is younger than eighteen. These Young refugees originate from countries where violence and repression are part of daily life. They have experienced horrible things and had to leave their life and home behind. Their future and status in the Netherlands often remains uncertain for years

.

For these children and youths de Vrolijkheid together with the residents of the AZC (Asylum seekers centre )organises creative activities. Art is the instrument that we give them because often dance , theatre , music and contemporary art are means to express themselves and tell their story , to develop self confidence and talent or to just be a child.

De vrolijkheid has been active in Den Helder now for 7 years. Permanent coordinator Natasja Buis together with her team of volunteers has developed a special retrospective exhibition about  7 years of the vrolijkheid in Den Helder. The Driving force behind the team is that we invest in the children who are staying at the AZC. We for example organize activities making it possible for the children to express themselves ,they are able to play and discover their talents. We let them tell stories , create theatre and let them paint. We give master classes in dance and theatre  … it is a broad scale of activities. De vrolijkheid brings vrolijkheid(cheerfulness) to help the children of the AZC deal with their experiences within a relaxed and open atmosphere.

All these elements are reflected in a sometimes moving, inspiring and humble but always cheerfull exhibit. Employees and children from the AZC cordially invite you to join us at the opening of this exhibit on Friday the 28th of November at 17.00 hours in the presence of some of the children at the Richter werkatelier.

The werkatelier is opened on Wednesday, thursday, Friday and saturday from 12 till 17.30 hours. You can find the

werkatelier at  ’t Juttersplein 2 te Den Helder.

call to participate: domestic violence; everybody’s Business!

Filed under: News and Events — admin @ 5:42 pm

Dear colleagues

Call for participation:

Richter foundation from the Netherlands in collaboration with foundation “Shelters home for woman with children” Den Helder, the Netherlands is planning to organize from 19 till 28 June 2009 a European training in the Netherlands. The training: domestic Violence; everybody’s Business! Gives opportunities to professionals in the field of youth work, social work and policymakers from NGOs and voluntary organizations from Europe and the former Soviet republics.

We specially invite organizations that are working in local, regional and international level and who are involved in promoting to protect woman and children who are suffered from or are exposed to domestic violence.

Two main objectives :

The first aim of the training is to share knowledge and train professional workers involved in organization, which deals with domestic violence. This training subscribes the importance of the aim and during the training we want to share knowledge about the different aspect of domestic violence.

What is domestic violence?

Domestic violence is violence that takes place in the home, committed by partners, parents, children, other family members or friends. Domestic violence can affect anyone; women and men, children and elderly people. Offenders, victims and witnesses come from every level of society and all cultural backgrounds, and every one of them has a problem with domestic violence. It’s everybody business!

The second aim of the training will be dealing with European Volunteering Service (EVS). During the training we have a closer look on the programme youth in action and will focus and give special attention to EVS. It’s the wish of the training to give applicants the opportunity to develop them and to get more information about this action.

Besides a study trip to a security house, a homeless house and HQ/resident of Richter we hope that this training will help the applicants and their organisations to gain knowledge about domestic violence and to establish (long term) working relationships.

How to apply:

The training is open for European and former Soviet countries and have place for 24 participants. We expect that the applicant is working with the theme volunteering and social integration that they can pass on the information, skills and contacts, that they have a mandate in order to make solid agreements and that they can communicate in English.

School’s out

      School’s out

The 3 EVS volunteers of this year at Richter go to the high school, Lyceum aan zee, and explain about Richter and the Youth in Action program and more precisely about EVS and youth exchanges.

Richter

Richter is a non-profit organisation with a gallery at the Juttersplein 2A where approximatly each month there is a new exhibition. There is also  a permanent exhibition named SEE BUY BYE. It’s a complete wall where they exhibit work of young artists from all over Europe. The purpous of this exhibition is two-sided:

1) Making it possible for young artists to exhibit their work and make a name for themselves.

2) The price of the  paintings vary between 25 euro’s and 200 euro’s to ensure that young people interrested in art can buy it. We think art is for everyone. It’s why we try to make art available for all  people.

Richter doesn’t profit from selling the work. All the money  goes to the artists.

Exchanges

The Richter organisation has contacts with other organisations worldwide.

This makes exchanges possible. Richter participates in about 10 exchanges a year. Since last May we have had exchanges in Scotland, Armenia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania and Den Helder. Yes, Den Helder because when you send so many people We think that you will have to host some as well. It’s why every year for 9 years now, Richter has organised the North East Westival, the street theater festival. Maybe you saw the shows on the Julianaplein last August.

We hosted 60 people from 9 different countries. They stayed in Den Helder for 9 days. The target of the exchanges can differ. Each exchange has a theme but the most important is meeting people from different cultures and having fun in a really short time and this makes everything more intense.

European Volontary Service

Now I have to explain the EVS (European Voluntary Service) to you because Georgia (Greece), Manuel (Italy) and Imen (Belgium) we are the EVS volunteers of Richter for this year. We come from all over the world and approximatly 9 months ago we decided to do something different, to follow another way. We decided to go to the most beautiful city in the world: Den Helder.

We didn’t know each other and we didn’t know Richter but each one of us searched on the database http://ec.europa.eu/youth/evs/aod/hei_en.cfm for the ideal project and made contact with a sending organisation in their country.

Because you are Dutch infortunatly you can’t be EVS volunteer in The Netherlands but luckily Richter is not the only active organisation. There are thousants of organisations ready to host you.

If you like the idea of leaving your parents in a safe way. Without worrying them and with everything paid for :( your insurance, pocket money, travel coming and  going back, food, location) this is for You!

It’s a good way to improve your english and learn maybe another language. It’s also a perfect way to have a break after High school and try new things to know exactly what you want to do later.

And also to just have a lot of fun.

Final points, following the votes in the classes:

Manuel: 8 points

Georgia: 1points

Imen: 0 points
